The Ships Graveyard
Port Adelaide is home to one of South Australia’s most significant maritime treasures — the Port Adelaide Ships Graveyard.
Dispersed over five sites across the Port River are the remains of sailing, steam, motor and service vessels that once worked local and international waters.
Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary
The Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary was established in 2005 to protect its resident population of Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins and their habitat.
The sanctuary is also visited by transient dolphins throughout the year. These wild animals come here to eat, play, socialise and live.
10,000-Year-Old Mangrove Forest
Port Adelaide is home to a 10,000-year-old mangrove forest that supports an important ecosystem along the Port River.
The mangroves shelter fish, crustaceans, birds and other wildlife while helping to protect the riverbank and surrounding wetlands.
International Bird Sanctuary
The Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park — Winaityinaityi Pangkara — forms part of an internationally significant habitat for resident and migratory shorebirds.
The sanctuary helps protect birdlife found around the Port River and Gulf St Vincent, including threatened species and familiar local waterbirds.
